Johnny Burnette, nato il 25 marzo 1934 a Memphis, ha vissuto nella stessa città di Elvis e della sua famiglia e la sua breve carriera ha rispecchiato in qualche modo quella del re (senza i film!). Ha sicuramente iniziato a suonare in stile Rock & Roll con un enorme debito nei confronti della musica country. Il suo primo album con suo fratello Dorsey come The Rock & Roll Trio è stato un grande classico del genere. Ma Johnny era destinato ad altre cose e quando l’era del Rock & Roll iniziò ad avere una flessione, fu il momento dell’idolo degli adolescenti. Johnny è diventato una pop star insieme agli adolescenti palpitanti dell’epoca come Ricky Nelson, Fabian, Frankie Avalon e Bobby Vee. I cinque album Liberty che registrò tra il 1959 e il 1962 erano grandi album pop. Johnny rimase tragicamente ucciso in un incidente in barca nel 1964 alla giovane età di 30 anni e si creò la sua leggenda.
