I Lindisfarne erano la band più in voga nel 1972. Molte delle loro migliori canzoni erano state scritte da Alan Hull, membro della band tra la fine del 1966 e l’inizio del 1969. Hull si era unito alla band locale Brethren per formare i Lindisfarne a metà del 1970. I Lindisfarne consolidano il loro successo con tournée costanti, ma Alan fatica a scrivere on the road, e si immerge nelle sue canzoni della fine degli anni Sessanta, registrate per scopi editoriali all’Impulse Sound. Questi demo della fine degli anni ’60 sarebbero diventati leggendari tra i fan e i media pop, ma pochissime tracce sono mai emerse, fino ad oggi. L’antologia “Singing A Song In The Morning Light”, composta da 4CD e 90 tracce, comprende non meno di 77 brani inediti, con diverse decine di titoli precedentemente non documentati. Contiene alcuni dei primi demo e altri classici dei Lindisfarne, le registrazioni con il supporto dei Brethren e della band psichedelica Skip Bifferty, nonché altre collaborazioni e molte performance da solista. A quasi 30 anni dalla tragica e precoce scomparsa di Alan, l’album è un’emozionante aggiunta al corpus di opere lasciate da uno dei più grandi cantautori britannici di tutti i tempi.
