Registrato il 2 Febbraio 1961, “Explorations” (Riverside RLP-351) rappresenta il quarto album di Bill Evans come leader e il secondo album in studio del suo trio leggendario con Scott LaFaro e Paul Motian. Il loro primo album insieme era stato “Portrait in Jazz”, registrato il 28 Dicembre 1959, in cui si era già manifestata chiaramente la chimica straordinaria che legava i tre musicisti. Sei brani di “Portrait in Jazz” sono stati aggiunti qui come bonus.
