Muddy Waters è considerato uno degli artisti più influenti nella storia della musica americana. Ha praticamente creato la classica formazione di una blues band, ha plasmato le sonorità del Chicago blues del dopoguerra e ha posto le basi del rock and roll. Waters è abilmente passato dalla tradizione del delta del Mississippi al blues acustico, fino ad arrivare alle sonorità elettriche. La sua musica ha influenzato innumerevoli artisti tra cui i Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix ed Eric Clapton. Questo cd raccoglie ben 27 brani registrati da Muddy Waters tra il 1956 e il 1962. In queste registrazioni Waters è affiancato da straordinaria musicisti tra cui Little Walter, James Cotton, Willie Dixon, Jimmy Rogers, Earl Hooker, Otis Spann e Willie Smith.
