Formed in Leeds in 2000, Kaiser Chiefs are one of the leading bands of their generation. Fronted by the charismatic Ricky Wilson with Simon Rix on bass, Andrew ‘Whitey’ White on guitar, Nick ‘Peanut’ Baines on keyboards and drummer Vijay Mistry, the band have had a string of anthemic hits such as ‘Oh My God’, ‘I Predict A Riot’, ‘Everyday I Love You Less and Less’, ‘Never Miss A Beat’ and ‘Hole In My Soul’.Now, almost two decades in the game, armed with that extensive back-catalogue of stadium belters and having sold over 8 million albums, Kaiser Chiefs return with their brand new studio album, the aptly titled Kaiser Chiefs Easy Eighth Album, out March 8th 2024.Produced by Amir Amor (Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Charli XCX), The Easy Eighth sees the Kaiser Chiefs go for it with a fresh and bold new sound. From the Nile Rodgers co-write of new single ‘Feeling Alright’, to the frantic ‘Beautiful Girl’, horn-laden Kaiser Chiefs throwback ‘Job Centre Shuffle’ and joyous punch in the gut that is ‘Jealousy’, these ten tracks are a true statement of intent from a band that continues to deliver the goods again and again. The album announcement arrives off the back of roaring success with the Beautiful South inspired ‘Jealousy’ and the dopamine releasing ‘How 2 Dance’ singles. The new single ‘Feeling Alright’ came about when on the first day the band started working with Nile Rogers, he said ‘What have you got?’. The band searched through some jams and this was a song that stood out to him. The band loved playing it but before never really knew where it would find a home. Nile turned out to be the best estate agent and found it a home almost immediately. He also brought in Amir Amor, who turned out to be the housemate for the entire record. A good place to start.Ricky says: “We might never get to the point where we can sit in an armchair with our arms behind our heads and go: ‘lads, we’ve done it’. But at the same time, maybe that’s why, years later, Kaiser Chiefs are still here.”Where 2019’s Duck straddled the tide between Northern-Soul euphoria and early ‘00s antithesis, 2024 will see Kaiser Chiefs stepping into a renewed spotlight; delving into innovative sonic avenues while preserving the iconic ‘Kaiser Chiefs’ essence. To come together to once again create what they craft best; breakthrough belters for the world’s dancefloor.
