“Lady in Satin”, presentato qui in entrambe le versioni Stereo (Columbia Cs-8048) e Mono (Columbia Cl-1157), ha segnato l’ultimo grande successo di Billie Holiday e il suo penultimo album di sempre. Registrato a New York nel febbraio del 1958 a pochi mesi dalla morte il disco ci presenta «Lady Day» con una voce priva dello smalto di un tempo, un po’ rauca e poco estesa ma assolutamente intensa e dalla elevatissima qualità artistica prova della duttilità del suo talento. La diva è qui accompagnata da Miles Davis, Urbie Green, Jack Green, J. J. Johnson, Tom Mitchell, Mal Waldron, Barry Galbraith, Milt Hinton e Osie Johnson fra altri.
