Shadows and Light è il secondo album dal vivo della musicista canadese Joni Mitchell. È stato pubblicato nel settembre 1980 tramite Asylum Records, la sua ultima uscita per l’etichetta. È stato registrato nel settembre 1979 al Santa Barbara Bowl di Santa Barbara, in California.[3] Per l’album, Mitchell è stato supportato da una band di acclamati musicisti jazz e fusion composta dal chitarrista Pat Metheny, dal bassista Jaco Pastorius, dal batterista Don Alias, dal tastierista Lyle Mays e dal sassofonista Michael Brecker. Inoltre, il gruppo vocale dei Persuasions appare nella title track e in una cover di ” Why Do Fools Fall in Love ” di Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers .
