Sebbene siano stati pubblicati da due etichette diverse, entrambi gli album appartengono alle stesse sessioni realizzare per la Reprise Records e sono un compendio di vecchi brani per big band, per lo più mai registrate precedentemente da Ellington e che non avrebbe mai più registrato.
