Il compositore e direttore d’orchestra Emil Reesen (1887-1964) fu un protagonista della musica danese che padroneggiava tutti i generi e gli stili – l’unica cosa che contava per lui era che la qualità della musica fosse buona.
La sua carriera iniziò nel mondo del teatro, dove suonava il pianoforte nei teatri musicali di Copenhagen e, col passare del tempo, cominciò anche a dirigere, arrangiare e comporre musica per varie operette e riviste. E lo faceva davvero bene.
Durante gli anni intorno alla Prima Guerra Mondiale, Reesen giunse alla conclusione che era il miglior direttore d’orchestra in città nonostante non avesse studiato al conservatorio. La cosa decisiva era il suo considerevole innato talento.
