Questo doppio CD contiene le colonne sonore originali composte da David Raksin per i film “The Bad and the Beautiful (Il bruto e la bella)” (1952) e “Laura” (1944). “Il bruto e la bella”, interpretato da Lana Turner e Kirk Douglas, è stato diretto da Vincente Minnelli e scritto da George Bradshaw e Charles Schnee. Ha vinto cinque premi Oscar su sei nomination, detiene il record per il maggior numero di premi per un film non nominato come miglior film, né miglior regia. L’omonima canzone, “The Bad and the Beautiful”, scritta da Raksin, è diventata uno standard l jazz, come dimostrano le tre versioni aggiunte qui come bonus, interpretate da John Lewis, Milt Jackson e Buddy Collette. Anche la colonna sonora del famoso film di Otto Preminger “Laura” (1944), interpretato da Gene Tierney e Dana Andrews, è stata scritta da David Raksin. La canzone Laura è diventata un altro standard jazz, e le versioni di Charlie Parker, Clifford Brown, Erroll Garner, e Don Byas sono contenute nel CD2.
