Jack Kerouac (1922-1969) è considerato un’icona letteraria e un pioniere della Beat Generation (insieme a William S. Burroughs e Allen Ginsberg). È diventato una celebrità pop e un progenitore del movimento hippie. Autore di vari libri considerati classici moderni, tra cui On the Road, The Subterraneans, e Visions of Cody, Kerouac ha anche prodotto tre LP in cui ha recitato la sua prosa e poesia. Su due di questi album, “Poetry for the Beat Generation” (Hannover HML5000), e “Blues and Haiku” (Hannover HM5006), è stato accompagnato da musicisti jazz (il pianista Steve Allen sul primo, e i sassofonisti Al Cohn e Zoot Sims sul secondo). Il suo terzo LP, “On The Beat Generation” (Verve MGV- 15005), vede invece la sua voce senza accompagnamento. Questo triplo cd riunisce tutti e tre gli album, oltre a tutto il materiale conservato di quelle sessioni, così come delle rarissime bonus tracks: un programma radiofonico di Kerouac con Steve Allen, un colloquio di Ben Hecht con lo scrittore, e una conferenza sulla beat Generation.
